The Seine-Nord-Europe canal will connect the Seine river and the ports of Dunkerque, Antwerp, Rotterdam, and the rest of Northern Europe ports. Archeological excavations at the site have begun in June 2009, and the construction will start in 2011. The canal and its 4 multimodal logistics parks are planned for 2015. Two consortiums, led by Vinci and Bouygues, are in competition for the construction. The chosen company will be responsible of financing the project, but also responsible of its conception, realization and maintenance during a minimum period of 30 years.
